POETIC JUSTICE

For me, writing is a form of documenting my experience and in some ways, a way for me to avenge myself from past transgressions that are now outside of my control. In other words, it gives me the ability to create a curated world where in the end, I decide how poetic justice is served. In the process of recounting the many moving parts of my life I am able to reflect and become more curious about myself often building my identity on the page. I am not certain of many things, and I don’t pretend to be, either. A lot of the time, I speak of not knowing. Moving through the world as an Afro-Dominican, first generation woman, there is a lot of not knowing. Taking the pen into my own hands is my form of making sure that whatever story gets told about my identity is mine entirely. Below you will find some of these fragmented documents.
